Louis A. Nack, Jr.

Attorney at Law · 1966 – 2026

A lifelong Galena resident and devoted attorney, Louis A. Nack, Jr. served the people of Elizabeth and Jo Daviess County for nearly six decades. He passed away on February 19, 2026, at the age of 90, and is deeply missed.

Louis returned to Galena in 1966 to practice law alongside his father, Louis A. Nack Sr., and James Richardson, working primarily from the firm's Elizabeth office. His younger brother, James Nack, joined the firm in 1974, and the two practiced together for nearly fifty years. In time, Louis's sons, Joseph and Thomas, carried the family tradition forward — as they do today, alongside Hailey Wills. Through it all, Louis worked beside his loyal legal assistant, Norma McClain, for more than fifty years.

Born in Galena on February 27, 1935, Louis graduated from the College of the Holy Cross in 1956 and began his legal studies at the University of Michigan. He left law school to enlist in the United States Navy, serving from 1957 to 1960 and leaving with the rank of Lieutenant Junior Grade. He later returned to his studies and earned his Juris Doctorate from the University of Illinois College of Law in 1966.

A Life Dedicated to Service

Louis loved being an attorney and was proud of the family firm and its long history in Galena. He was known for his personal and professional integrity, and for his fairness, honesty, compassion, and common sense — qualities that defined both his practice and the character of this firm. A past president of the Jo Daviess County Bar Association, he gave generously to the legal community he loved.

Beyond the law, Louis was a devoted husband to Dolores, his wife of more than sixty-six years, and a loving father and grandfather. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, the Galena Elks, the Galena VFW, and the Knights of Columbus. A wonderful storyteller, he treasured a lifetime of friendships in the community he was proud to call home.
